Scott: Tell me about the release a bit...

Chay:  It's my 4th release as Chay & The Hostages. (2 LPs 2 EPs) I wrote and recorded all 

of the stuff at home by myself. I tried to experiment with a few new styles on this release 

and incorporated some rockabilly and slow-core into a couple songs. I had a rough year 

recording these songs, getting pretty much banned from Canada after a bad relationship 

and running on weed and coffee but I feel like I was able to make some unique recordings 

that will hopefully resonate with some people.

The second song "Swim" sums up the mood for the entire album, a manic chugging train ride at 4am while on the brink of maybe sobriety or maybe insanity.

 The vocals drone and boom into the mechanical and frantic title track "Trigger Warning". 

In a music scene where everyone wants to be twee and ironic this might be the heaviest noise you'll hear at a dive bar since Big Black. 

And Chay tops off the short unbalanced journey with Left My Lady (on I-80) a creepy Casio-esque rockabilly song about Vegas? Yeah. Recommended with a liberal dose of caffeine and/or Alcohol."

Okay it's back, i'm back. I feel good and I hope you do too. I don't know how much i'll be updating this blog but when I have time I'll try to as I'm finding myself with a little bit more extra time and drive. Let's get to it, there are 5 Halloween shows this season I think are worth checking out.

1. VINYL & SUSHI on DEVILS NIGHT!

This event is a custom DJ set that is brand new everytime with the veteran DJ's Adam Gallegos and Sean Barry. Sakana sushi in Ferndale hosts this event and it is very cool! You come get sushi in this very nice Japanese Restaurant and listen to really good tunes. New DJ's bring new music to the table and it is going on at least ONCE a month. This month they decided to do a Devils night version. So expect cool Hallween music or whatever else for that matter!

Okay so here it goes, number three with the Communist Day Care Center Halloween Spectacular! This event features two cover bands both doing a unique band. Check it out in Berkley. This would be a cool event to check out because it's outside of the city at a pretty good bar. (THEBERKLEYFRONT)

Update: Outrageous Cherry is back with a new album!

It's been a long long long time since Outrageous Cherry has put out a new album and it's about time if you ask me. It's called, " The Digital Age" and its out on Burger Records based in California. Usually these dudes put stuff out on ALIVE or IN the red (if i'm not mistaken) but in this case it's my all time favorite...BURGER! Now this band comes from the 90's when playing rock n' roll in the kitchen was the only place to do it. As time moved on, they progressed very well. Most of their early work consists of heavier psyche influence and 60's pop structure. Now it's a little bit more on the pop side of things. I haven't heard one track from this album but I'm very excited to pick it up and give it a listen.

Liquor Store on Last Call with Carson Daly

Liquor Store isn't a Detroit band but it features a member from Terrible Two's/Mahonies on guitar so I figure this is fair game to post on a Detroit/MI blog. Anyways, this is the first time I've ever seen Liquor Store on television and I was really excited. They are a relatively new band, only having been around for a few years. I found it cool that they were getting television coverage this early on in their careers. The first time I saw this band was at the first FUCKING AWESOME FEST at the Magic Stick awhile back. They played and I was like who the hell are these guys? They rule! They came on the stage and just erupted into this really tight well played music. I was blown away. Their first record YEAH BUDDY was great too. I'm excited to see what these guys bring to the table in the years to come. Anyway, here's Pile of Dirt-Liquor Store on Last Call with Carson Daly.

First I'd like to take some time and thank all the bands for all their hard work over the summer and fall. I know everyone in Michigan has been putting some really good shows together. I wish I could have made it out to more of them but really haven't been able to find the time or physically been able to get there. It has sucked. I hope this post catches some people up on what they have been missing out on in Detroit. I plan on being very active with the blog now. Time to get busy!
