BANDS: DUENDE/FUR/ THE BLUEFLOWERS

DUENDE! Cordially invites you to celebrate the release of their new
album FLORENCE TO THE MAD MAN on August 27th, 2011 at Small’s in Hamtramck, MI with very special guests FUR and The Blueflowers.

The album was recorded at Tempermill Studios in Ferndale, MI by
Dave Feeny (sound engineer on 2010’s EP, WAY IN IS OUT), who also mastered and mixed it with the band.
Side arms Ray Thompson (The Oscillating Fan Club) on Bari Sax and
Dustin Leslie (Dutch Pink) on Farfisa and Organ return. Jennifer David (Illy Mack) also contributes.

The album is the first to feature new member Scott Sanford (Pewter Cub) on electric bass and fuzz and acoustic guitars who joined the
band last summer just weeks before the band opened for Jon SpencerBlues Explosion at The Crofoot Ballroom in Pontiac, MI.

The photograph on the record’s cover is of Jeff Howitt’s Grandmother Erma and her friend Leona with their guitars, taken in 1939 on
Woodward Ave. in Pontiac, MI.

The album opener COME BACK contains lyrics from an unreleased
Oblivions’ song, written by Greg Cartwright. The band got permission
from the man himself to record the song; however, they set the lyrics to an entirely different and original arrangement that conveys the
influence of sharing stages with The Sadies (with and without X’s John Doe), Mike Hurt & The Haunted Hearts and Magnolia Electric Co. the
past few years.

The only other topical song is BAREFOOT BANDIT which about
modern outlaw, Colton Harris-Moore, who eluded authorities in the
Pacific Northwest for a few years before being caught in a high speed boat chase in the Bahamas after crashing a stolen plane. Otherwise,
the recordings show a band immersed in their sound and continuing to create music that is elemental, mystical in context and wildly
listenable even if normal definitions can’t compare to any given
genre.
