Frustrations! (new tracks!)

I've been following this band since highschool. I really enjoy them. Their first album blew me away. I really like how they combine psychedelic elements into noise and punk and make it their own. I plan on reviewing their newest album when it comes out. Hopefully this summer. Anyways. I found they posted a few finished tracks from it online.

Check them out

THE SPITS!

Show is going to be great. No doubt about that..I just wanted to take a moment to say that I've updated the "label's we support " section of the blog. When you click a certain Record Label or Company, etc etc you will be taken to that Record Co's place of business. So let's say one day I mention a certain DETROIT and or Nonspecific band. You can then go to the site check them out. Do what you have to do and If you really like the music then you can purchase it right then and there and you won't have to go through a bunch of crap like EBAY, AMAZON, FINDING THE BAND DIRECTLY, SEEING IF EVERY RECORD STORE OWNS IT. Etc etc. They are all good places though to find music. I am not knocking any one of those. The 'labels' section is to keep my readers informed and up to date with the music I am posting about. This doesn't mean that those labels are the end all be all of places. I know this. If you we're to go to every site and go in depth on every one of them though you could find some extraordinary things. Things you will not find in Mainstream music culture. Thanks for taking time to read this. I appreciate it a lot. I hope the label's section is now more helpful than like before where it just listed a name. There is a method to my madness. haha. Goodnight Detroit.

Found this on Timmy Vulgar's Blog. Pretty stoked to see it. Had to track down the original video to post it but it's worth the wait. I've been busy lately so I haven't been posting millions of shows or doing fliers as much but I'm getting back into it again. (thankfully)

the title of this song is "Fill my Fridge-The Clone Defects"

Enjoy

The Philter S/T Album Review

The Philter is a great band. Immediately right off the bat this band get's you hooked with, "It's Over." The band has elements of shoegaze, chillwave, and surf rock. It mostly pays homage to surf bands such as The Ventures and Dick Dale while at the same time being as catchy as the Raveonettes. The Philter consists of three people at the moment. Nik, Kim and Justin. Nik plays guitar. Kim Plays Bass. Justin plays the drums. The cool thing about this band is that when they were first starting out they only used a drum machine to write all of their drum parts. This shows a ton of dedication to me and makes the album better in my eyes. In Fact, they did not have a live drummer on this album. The Drum Machine used on this album was a real Boss 202 drum machine. Most of the lyrics on this album are pretty easy to understand and you can take what you will from them. Nik does a good job of being clear on the mic but also having a nice amount of reverb in the mic while playing. I don't have any problems with the songs. I wouldn't say this is a perfect album but it's pretty damn close. An album done 100% by the band on their time, released where they wanted to release it and etc. I can't think of a better way to put out a debut album. I highly recommend picking up a copy.

Tracklist:

it's over /heartbreak and candy/ ghosts/ the girl is dead /tiny /daisies /burnt star/ sleepy/ follow the leader/ monsters/ you're in my dreams/

The Philter is:

Nik-Vocals/Guitar
Kim-Bass
Justin-Drums

I did a short Q/A with The Philter about the release and this is what they had to say:

1. When was it recorded?

This album was recorded throughout mid to late 2010.

2.Was it a studio recorded album or a home recording of the band?
If so which studio and Who produced it?

"We have a home studio so technically both. We did however want it to sound very simple. Not much in the way of professional production value and that's the way we wanted it. "

3. Describe the recording process

"This album was recorded before we had our drummer so we programed the drums in fruity loops from samples we took of a real Boss 202 drum machine. We just overdubbed guitars, bass and vocals on top of the drums. "

4. Is it on Doorway Records or Romantic Air?

"Doorway is a totally independent label i started just for personal releases. This is considered a Doorway release although we are looking into having it put out on Romantic Air. We were actually told it will come out on Romantic Air but no action yet. "

5. And lastly, What was the highlight of recording & releasing The Philter's latest album?

"The best part was/is the final product. Being able to look at a real cd with real artwork and full of what we consider to be quality music... written, recorded, designed and released by ourselves one hundred percent. Its very cool. "
